We all know it, we've all seen or heard of it and it's no shock that this small Utah city has the quick high-five wave too. You see the lady walking her 4 dogs and get the wave, you pass the old man getting his mail and get the wave, you pass the slow tractor on 'the' highway and get the wave...it's everywhere. Even I have succumbed and started waving to strangers, it's not a bad or sarcastic thing (like most of my other redneck wednesdays).
In fact, it makes me think there is still hope for humanity: people noticing other people and taking a moment to let them know it.
It's interesting to see the generation gap with 'the wave'. Most people 30 and up stick to the original 'high-five' wave (stick hand in air in a high-five position for a brief 2 second gesture of hello). The general populous of 29 and under have the head nod (the cowboy nod where the chin gestures down, not the city punk nod where the chin lifts up).
